What kind of influence do the people around us have?

Well let’s begin with defining peer pressure. Peer pressure is when you feel like you need to do or have something to be accepted or fit in. Another way you could say it is when the behavior of someone else affects how you behave. You might think that many people will associate peer pressure as being a bad thing, but it can also be good in many ways. An example of positive peer pressure could be joining a sports, a club, or starting a new hobby. Negative peer pressure can be associated with pressure to do drugs, do something that is against the law, or to go against personal or religious standards.

Peer Pressure in Your Business

A lot of you may be familiar with the shoe brand Vans. This company is a great example to see how peer pressure helps their business thrive. Young people might feel “cooler” or “more trendy” when they are wearing a pair of Vans shoes because it’s what everyone else seems to have. Let’s be honest, we all want to fit in. We don’t want to be the ones wearing the off brand shoes nowadays.

How do you apply the kind of peer pressure to your brand? Social media influencers are becoming a massive asset towards brand awareness. If you can get a well known influencer to get their hands on and share your product, you can create a whole new outlet of people seeing your product. Why does this work so well? People tend to follow people they trust, look up to, want to be like, or maybe just enjoy seeing their content. When they see an honest review of your brand, they will immediately trust the person sharing it.

These strategies might be very useful if your target is of a younger audience. This is when this act of peer pressure has an even more powerful affect. I bet you didn’t realize until now how much the people around you really do influence your actions.
